The Web has changed the way the world looks at information. The expanding role of IT in business, science, government, social structures and personal lives is obvious in the current generation. As an academic discipline, IT focuses on meeting the needs of users within an organizational and societal context through the selection, creation, application, integration and administration of computing technologies.

Information Technology and Computer Science are the soul and psyche of many engineering branches. These fields are instrumental in bringing the world to where it is today. Information technology course was started in the year in Sir C R Reddy College of Engineering in the year 2000 with an intake of 60.

The Bachelor of Information Technology is designed to equip students for professional careers within the IT industry or in other IT intensive organizations including government departments and business enterprises.

The Bachelor of Information Technology provides students with the knowledge and skills essential to become a multi-skilled IT professional capable of contributing to areas spanning through technological development to strategic planning and business process management and modeling. Graduates have a wide range of career paths open to them and could be employed in roles such as business consultant, systems and business analyst and programmer, networked applications developer, solutions and enterprise architect, researcher, project leader, process and client manager and IT educator. Opportunities for more senior roles such as chief information officer or chief technology officer may arise as skills and experience develop.

The department always maintains the required number of faculty as per the norms stipulated by the statutory bodies. The Department is headed by a doctorate and 17 other, includes senior faculty members. The faculty is a perfect blend of Academicians and Industry professionals having different specializations in Computer Science and Engineering and Information Technology to impart their expertise through diversified courses of the B.Tech program.

A good number of faculties are attending the conferences/workshops etc., to enhance their quality in academics and to get themselves acquainted with latest technological trends. Faculties are being invited to deliver extension lectures by the industries as per their requirements.

Course files and lab handouts are given to the students to give them overall idea about the course they are going to study. Electronic teaching aid such as LCD is being extensively used in addition to Lecture method. An exclusive counseling session is included in the Time-table in which each faculty is allotted with 20 students. Students are counseled in these classes where solutions pertaining to their academic and personal problems are provided.

The Department has modern laboratories to serve the teaching and research needs of the students and faculty of the Department. All the Computers are networked and configured with different network services like DNS, FTP, DHCP, KICKSTART AND NFSD with a capital investment of Rs.90 lakhs.

The labs have various platforms like WINDOWS-NT, NOVEL NETWARE, SCOUNIX, RED-HAT LINUX, FEDORA and equipment like Line Printer, Colour Laser Printers, CD-Writters And Scanners. The softwares available are TURBO C, TURBO C++, Windows-NT 4.0, Novel Netware 4.11, SCO-UNIX, Red-hat Enterprise LINUX Server 4.0,5.0,6.0,Ubuntu ,MAT-LAB 7.0,Adobe Suite , ORACLE ACADEMIC ALLIANCE & MSDN ACADEMIC ALLIANCE with tools, IBM-Rational Rose and Microsoft IT academy.

The Information Technology department is well equipped with 115 computers with latest configuration and is networked using latest servers.

There is a Department Library for utility of the students & staff of the Department. The library consists of 505 Titles and 1370 volumes to meet the requirement of the students in addition to the Central Library.

Sir C R Reddy College of Engineering is accredited by TCS for placement. In addition MNCs like MPhasis , Syntel, Intergraph, CMC, Infosys, TechMahendra and others are visiting the campus for placements.

About 75% of the eligible candidates are getting placements. Remaining students pursue higher education in India & abroad through GATE and GRE.

Training for placements and GATE is provided to the Students. They can access Internet facility with a dedicated bandwidth of 6 Mbps.

Department conducts national conferences and workshops to inculcate habit of research among staff members. The Department. conducted International conference in the year 2011 and National conference in 2013 and National workshops in 2012 and 2014.

PO1: Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO6: The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

PO7: Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in society and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

PO8: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
