The Department of Mechanical Engineering has been functioning since the inception of the College in 1989. The present intake is 120 students in First Year  with 10% lateral entry  in second year. A new P.G.Course M.E. (Machine Design) was introduced by the department during the Academic year 2010 - 2011. The Department has 24 Teaching Faculty members. Out of this 04 are Doctorates; one has submitted his Thesis. The remaining staff members are M.Tech Degree holders and well experienced. They are from reputed Institutions. One staff member has authored a Text Book on CAD/CAM. Average experience is more than 12 years. The department also has 10 experienced and qualified Non-Teaching staff to assist and help the department in day to day conduct of Practical classes and maintenance works.

The Department has excellent Laboratory facilities, Work-Shops, Drawing Halls & Spacious class rooms established with a capital investment of Rs. 122.6 lakhs so far. The department has added a new Mechatronics laboratory to its state of the art Laboratories at a cost of 3.15 lakhs and CAD/CAM laboratory with an investment of 36.02 lakhs.  A separate new CAD Lab for M.E. (Machine Design) course with 20 P - IV systems at a total cost of Rs. 5 Lakhs was established.

In the process of upgrading the Strength of Materials Lab, the Department has obtained a grant in aid of Rs. 6,00,000/- from AICTE, New Delhi under MODROBS Scheme. A Pin on Disc Wear and Friction Monitor (Ducom, Bangalore), Inverted Metallurgical Microscope (Deewinter, Italy), Double Disc Polishing Machine, Electric Muffle Furnace with Digital Temperature Controller and a Digital Electronic weighing balance were procured, with the above grant in aid. The department has also obtained Rs. 20.4 lakhs from AICTE, New Delhi for a research project on Nano Composites (2012 – 2015). To augment the research in the Department, a Planetary ball mill (Retsch, Germany), Digital Micro Hardness tester (Daksh, Indore), Electronic Tensometer – PC 2000 (Kudale, Pune) were procured with the support of the above funds. A Salt smoke spray test chamber and a Vaccum Stirr cast furnace are also in the pipe line of purchase. A Research Centre was established with the above equipment, to investigate various problems in Natural fibre reinforced polymer matrix composites and Aluminum based metal matrix composites / Nano Composites. This was inaugurated on 25.01.2014 by Dr. G.S.N. Raju, Vice Chancellor of Andhra University, and Visakhapatnam.

In order to update the knowledge of the students, industrial tours and guest lectures are arranged regularly. Mock GATE tests are conducted every year and guidance is provided to interested students appearing for the GATE exam. Many of the students are pursuing P.G. studies in reputed institutions in India and abroad.

Students are encouraged to participate in State and National level paper presentation contests conducted by various technical institutions. Many of the students in the department have participated in such activities.

Counseling of II/IV, III/IV & IV/IV B.E. students is regularly conducted by the department staff members to monitor their regularity and academic progress.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has established a tradition of employing a large number of graduates in many reputed organizations of core industrial sector. Further our students are also placed in IT companies and multinational companies.
